Privacy Policy - Bitflinger, LLC

Bitflinger, LLC ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use Bitflinger TV and our related applications and services (the "Service"). Bitflinger TV is a streaming aggregator that helps you browse, filter, and organize titles across the streaming services you already use.

Information We Collect

Account Information. When you sign in with Google or with Sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address and a unique identifier from that provider, which we use to create and secure your account. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, we receive only a private relay email address and never your real email address.

Subscription Information. If you purchase a subscription in the app, the transaction is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. If you purchase one on our website, it is processed by Paddle.com, our reseller and the Merchant of Record for website orders, which collects your payment details, email address and billing country to complete and support the sale under its own privacy notice. We receive your subscription status (for example, trial, active, or expired) so we can provide access to paid features. We do not receive or store your payment card or banking details.

Your Content and Preferences. We store the content you create in the app — such as your watchlists, media lists, filters, selected sources, theme and appearance settings, and setup choices — so we can sync them across your devices.

Usage Data. We use Google's Firebase Analytics to collect information about how you use the Service's features — for example, which settings screens you open, whether you viewed the subscription screen, and events like starting a free trial or purchasing a subscription — along with a Firebase-generated app-instance identifier and basic device details. We use this to understand usage, operate and improve the app, and measure the performance of our own marketing, including reporting conversion events to Google Ads and, on Apple devices, Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork. These analytics events never include the titles you watch, like, dislike, or add to your watchlist. We do not show you third-party advertising inside the app or allow these providers to use it to build cross-app advertising profiles of you.

Streaming Service Activity. When you start watching something from Bitflinger TV, we record which streaming service it opened and when, and keep the most recent time for each service on your list. We use this inside Bitflinger TV — for example, to remind you about a service you haven't opened from the app in a while, if you turn that reminder on. We do not share it with anyone today. It is viewing information, so for free accounts it is covered by the right we reserve in Free Accounts and Subscription Accounts.

Ad Click Information. If you arrive at our website from one of our ads, we record which ad and campaign brought you there. See Measuring Our Advertising.

Device Information. We collect basic device information such as device type, operating system, app version, and language for compatibility, security, and support purposes.

Free Accounts and Subscription Accounts

Bitflinger TV is offered in two tiers, and they differ in how your information may be used. Which tier you are on is the only thing that changes; we collect the same information either way.

Subscription accounts. We do not sell, rent, or trade the personal information of subscription accounts, and we will not. Your subscription is what pays for the Service.

Free accounts. Free access has to be paid for somehow. We do not sell free-account information today. We do, however, reserve the right to do so in the future — for example, by providing viewership, tuning, or audience-measurement data to measurement companies such as Nielsen, or to other data brokers, panels, or analytics partners, in exchange for payment.

If and when we begin, we will do all of the following before any data changes hands: update this Privacy Policy and its effective date, describe what categories of information are involved and who receives them, give notice inside the app, and provide the opt-out described under Your Rights and Choices. We will not apply it retroactively to information already collected under a version of this policy that promised otherwise.

Two things will remain true regardless: subscribing removes your account from any such use for as long as the subscription is active, and we will not sell or share the personal information of any user we know to be under 16 years of age.

What We Do Not Do

We do not sell, rent, or trade the personal information of subscription accounts, and we do not sell free-account information today — see Free Accounts and Subscription Accounts for the right we reserve to do so for free accounts in the future.
We do not serve you third-party advertising inside the app, and nobody pays to place titles or streaming services in front of you.
We do not build advertising profiles of you or track you across other companies' apps. The only information we send to advertising platforms is described under Measuring Our Advertising.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or other personal files.

How We Use Your Information

To create your account and sign you in securely
To sync your watchlists, lists, filters, and preferences across your devices
To provide personalized browsing and recommendations based on your choices
To process and validate your subscription and provide access to paid features
To operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Service
To produce aggregate viewership and audience-measurement insights — and, for free accounts only and subject to the notice and opt-out described above, potentially to provide such data to third parties
To send you the notifications you choose, such as watchlist alerts and reminders about streaming services you haven't opened from the app in a while
To measure which of our own ads bring people to Bitflinger TV, as described under Measuring Our Advertising
To provide customer support and respond to your requests
To protect the security and integrity of the Service and comply with the law

Measuring Our Advertising

We advertise Bitflinger TV on advertising platforms, currently Google (including YouTube), Meta (Facebook and Instagram), and Reddit. To know which of those ads are worth paying for, we measure which ones lead people to download the app, create an account, or subscribe. This is the only reason we share anything with advertising platforms, and we keep it narrow.

On our website. When you click one of our ads, the ad platform adds a click identifier to the link (such as Google's gclid, Meta's fbclid, or Reddit's rdt_cid), and we add campaign tags (such as utm_campaign). Our website stores these in first-party cookies for up to 90 days, so that if you later create an account we can tell which ad brought you. Our website also loads the Google tag, which reports visits from Google ads to Google, and reports to Google when you tap one of our App Store, Google Play, or web app buttons.

When you tap a download button, create an account, or subscribe. If you arrived from one of our ads, our servers tell the advertising platform that ran it when you tap one of those buttons and when you create an account; for Google ads, we also report when that account first subscribes. We send only the click identifier, the time, the page of our website you were on, and, for some platforms, your web browser's user-agent string (a standard description of the browser and device type). We do not send your name, email address, account ID, IP address, or anything about what you watch, like, dislike, or add to your watchlist. In our app, we also report installs and subscriptions through Google Play's install referrer, Firebase, and Apple's SKAdNetwork.

What the platforms do with it. Each platform uses this to report and improve the performance of our ads. They may also combine it with information they already hold about you under their own policies: Google, Meta, and Reddit. Under some U.S. state privacy laws, this counts as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, even though no money changes hands and it is not a sale. You can opt out at any time, as described under Your Rights and Choices.

The only personal information we request from these sign-in services is your name and email address. Sign in with Apple lets you keep your email address private from us through Apple's private email relay. You can revoke an app's access to Sign in with Apple at any time in your device settings under your Apple Account, and you can manage Google account access in your Google Account settings.

Service Providers and Third Parties

We share information only as needed to operate the Service, with providers who are bound to protect it:

Cloud hosting and infrastructure: Amazon Web Services hosts our servers and database.
Authentication: Google and Apple verify your identity when you sign in.
Analytics and measurement: Google's Firebase Analytics processes app usage and event data on our behalf so we can understand how the Service is used and measure our marketing. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
App stores: The Apple App Store and Google Play process subscription purchases made in the app and report subscription status to us.
Paddle: Paddle.com is the reseller and Merchant of Record for subscriptions bought on our website. It processes the payment, handles tax, billing and refunds, and tells us the subscription's status and the Paddle customer and order identifiers. When you buy on our website we pass Paddle your account identifier and email address so the purchase can be linked to your account. Paddle's handling of your information is governed by Paddle's Privacy Notice.
Content catalog providers: To show streaming availability, ratings, and title details, we send title and search queries to third-party catalog data providers. We do not share your identity or account with these providers.
Advertising platforms: the platforms we advertise on, currently Google Ads, Meta, and Reddit, receive the limited ad click and conversion information described under Measuring Our Advertising, and nothing about what you watch.
Measurement companies and data brokers (free accounts, not active today): the recipients contemplated by Free Accounts and Subscription Accounts. Unlike the providers above, such a recipient would use the data for its own purposes rather than only on our behalf, which is why it is treated as a sale and carries an opt-out.

We may also disclose information to comply with legal obligations or lawful requests, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Bitflinger, LLC, our users, or others.

Data Storage and Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Information is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored securely. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service.

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time directly in the app. Open Settings → Account → Delete Account and confirm. This immediately and permanently deletes your Bitflinger TV account and all of your data — including your media lists, filters, and settings — and cannot be undone. If you are unable to access the app, you can also request deletion through our Data Deletion page.

Deleting your account cancels a subscription bought on our website immediately. It does not cancel a subscription bought in the Apple App Store or Google Play; those must be managed or canceled in your App Store or Google Play account settings. After deletion, we will remove your information except where we are required to retain it to comply with legal obligations.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Access and review the information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate information
Request deletion of your information — instantly in the app under Settings → Account → Delete Account, or through our Data Deletion page
Withdraw consent or limit certain processing (this may limit some functionality)

Opting out of sale. We are not selling personal information today, so there is nothing to opt out of yet. If we begin for free accounts, you will be able to opt out at any time and free of charge, we will honor browser- and device-level opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control where the law requires it, and residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with comparable laws will have the opt-out rights those laws provide. Subscribing also removes your account from any such use.

Opting out of sharing for advertising. To opt out of the ad measurement sharing described under Measuring Our Advertising:

Turn on Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser. When our website receives a GPC signal, it does not store ad click identifiers or campaign tags, and it tells the Google tag not to use advertising cookies or personalization. Without that information, we have nothing to report to the platforms when you sign up.
Or contact us using the details below and ask us to opt your account out. We will stop sending any sign-up or subscription events about your account to advertising platforms.

Opting out of this sharing is free and does not change how Bitflinger TV works for you. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with comparable laws have these rights under those laws, and we extend them to everyone.

Some jurisdictions permit a business to offer a different price or service level to consumers who allow their data to be sold, provided it is reasonably related to the value of that data and is disclosed in advance. If we ever offer such a program, we will publish the notice of financial incentive that the law requires, including its material terms and how to withdraw, before enrolling anyone.

Children's Privacy

Our applications are not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it.

We will not sell or share the personal information of any user we know to be under 16 years of age, on any tier, whatever the practices described elsewhere in this policy.

International Users

We are based in the United States and process and store information there. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those in your country.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the effective date. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
